Therapy Dog Program

Canine Companions for Your Comfort

Andalusia Health is excited to introduce our Therapy Dog Program, bringing canine comfort, connection, and joy directly to patients and families. Our trained therapy dogs and certified handlers visit throughout the hospital to help reduce stress, lift spirits, and support healing in a meaningful way.

This program reflects our commitment to whole-person care, recognizing that emotional well-being is an essential part of recovery. With every wagging tail and gentle nudge, our therapy dogs help create a calmer, more supportive environment for everyone we serve.

Why Therapy Dogs?

Spending time with a therapy dog helps improve the hospital experience by:

  • Boosting staff morale with a calming, joyful break for our hardworking team
  • Comforting patients through unconditional love and distraction from pain
  • Improving recovery with motivation for patients during rehabilitation
  • Lowering stress & anxiety via reduced cortisol levels and blood pressure

How the Program Works

Our program follows safe, sanitary protocols with essential safeguards, including:

  • Certified Teams – all dogs are handled, certified, fully vaccinated, and evaluated for temperament by accredited organizations (e.g., Pet Partners, Alliance of Therapy Dogs)
  • Safety First – dogs are always on a leash, bathed within 24 hours before arrival, and supervised by their handlers
  • Sanitization – strict hand hygiene is required before and after petting

BE WELL. LIVE WELL.
That's why we're here.
